At my husband’s seventieth birthday dinner, he ordered freely for the entire family, then pushed the $3,926 bill toward me. “You can pay with that retirement money,” he said. When I refused, he laughed. “A wife doesn’t keep money from her husband.” He was sure I would pay rather than embarrass him. What I did next turned that dinner into a night he would never forget.
I had been married to Richard for forty-two years. Most people called him responsible. He paid the mortgage on time, kept the cars maintained, and never forgot the insurance. Providing also gave him a reason, in his mind, to decide everything.
Sleeping naked is honestly the best .You just get into bed and suddenly life feels a little less stressful. Then you wake up wondering why you ever wear clothes to bed in the first place .
Be honest… are you sleeping naked or are you still loyal to your pajamas? 😂
My 9-year-old daughter called my boss from my phone while I was in the shower.
Boss: “Hello?”
Daughter: “Hi. Is this Mummy’s boss?”
Boss: “Yes. Who is this?”
Daughter: “I’m her daughter. I need to ask you something.”
Boss: “Okay… what is it?”
Daughter: “Mummy said she can’t come to my school tomorrow because she has an important meeting.”
Boss: “That’s right. She really needs to be here.”
Daughter: “Okay. Is the meeting more important than seeing me sing?”
Boss: “Well… it’s work. Your mummy has responsibilities.”
She went quiet for a few seconds.
I used to be one of those people who believed HR was there to protect employees.
Then I had to actually report my manager.
It started with small things. My manager would change deadlines without telling me, leave me out of meetings, then question why I wasn't prepared when decisions were made without me.
At first, I tried handling it myself.
I spoke to him twice.
Nothing changed.
So one afternoon, I went to HR.....
I reported my manager on a Tuesday.
I had everything documented. The 11pm messages. The "if you want that promotion you know what to do" comments. The emails where he took credit for my work. 6 months of screenshots.
HR smiled and said "We take this very seriously. Thank you for coming to us. We're here to protect employees."
They told me not to tell anyone and they'd investigate.
On Thursday my manager called me into his office and closed the door.
He broke into their house at midnight looking for valuables. When he found nothing, things took a terrifying turn as he tried to k!ll them both. Thankfully, they survived. 😨
