Yes. New Yorker here.
Our education system is failing too many kids. I’ve seen college students who can’t read cursive, can’t sign their name properly, and can’t tell time on an analog clock. I once pointed to an analog clock when a college student asked me the time, and she replied, “I don’t know how to read those kinds of clocks.” It honestly blew my mind.
As someone who works in education, I believe states and local communities are better positioned to decide what their students need than a one-size-fits-all federal bureaucracy.
