#LestWeForgetIndia🇮🇳 Major Shafeeq Mahmood Khan Ghori, 172 FIELD REGT/ 30 RASHTRIYA RIFLES, laid down his life fighting in a counter-insurgency Op in Baramulla, J&K, #OnThisDay 01 July in 2001.

The service, valour, and supreme sacrifice of the gallant #IndianBrave remain etched forever. During 2001, Maj Ghori served with 30 RR battalion deployed in the Baramulla district of J&K.

On 01 July 2001, on receiving information about the presence of terrorists in the area, Maj Ghori’s unit was tasked to engage terrorists in Boban Watsar forest in Baramulla district.

Maj Ghori along with his troops launched a search and cordon operation against the terrorists. Soon a gun battle ensued. He fought bravely against the militants but received gunshots during the heavy exchange of fire.

However, at that time, he noticed that one of his soldiers had got critically wounded and needed to be moved to safety. Despite being severely injured, without caring for his safety, he decided to move his wounded soldier to the nearby jeep to save him from the ongoing exchange of fire. In doing so, Maj Ghori succumbed to his injuries.

Throughout the operation, Maj Ghori showed commendable bravery, compassion for his fellow soldiers, and raw courage.

To honour Maj Ghori's valour & supreme sacrifice, the hill feature where he laid down his life is now called Ghori Spur.

We remember Major Ghori and convey our deepest respect to Mrs Ghori

The gallant #IndianBrave eliminated two of the enemy, and succumbed to injuries during the recapture of #TigerHill, Drass

Hav Lal was the Section Commander tasked to capture area Top on Eastern spur of Tiger Hill in the Drass sector.. Subsequent company attack hinged on his success to capture the area Top and establish a foothold. Having deployed his fire support base, he attempted to assault area Top from the most difficult approach.

The enemy held area Top strongly, having readjusted itself to inflict effective fire. Despite heavy odds of attacking uphill at 16,500 feet against accurate enemy small arms and grenade fire, Hav Lal fearlessly pressed on with the help of mountaineering equipment and reached the area's top in six hours.

Undeterred and without losing nerve, he approached the enemy from an unexpected direction. This daring action cut off the enemy, and they started withdrawing in panic. Two intruders, who got trapped, were killed. During this firefight, he sustained severe injuries but continued fighting till his last.

Enthused by his brave and determined charge and refusal to get evacuated, his Section was able to capture two sangars in the area Top which later facilitated in capture of area Top of Tiger Hill.

Havildar Madan Lal displayed extraordinary courage and junior leadership before making the supreme sacrifice for the country.

The #IndianBrave was awarded the #VirChakra posthumously.🏵️
