Yesterday, the Secretary for Transport and Infrastructure Development, Eng. Joy Makumbe was leading a delegation on a monitoring visit to inspect progress on the Bulawayo - Kezi - Maphisa route. The delegation comprises ZINARA and Department of Roads engineers as well as ZINARA CEO Mr. Nkosinathi Ncube. This approximately 120 km stretch is currently at various stages of rehabilitation and maintenance with 10 contractors on site along the stretch.
This project is key to improving connectivity in the region in line with our national development agenda for progress and social and economic empowerment for all communities.

@DavidColtart Thank his Worship maybe we need to come up with short term solutions to make the roads trafficable while long term solutions are being pursued
City Mayor, Councillor David Coltart, said during the commissioning of road maintenance equipment procured using 2025 fund disbursements from the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara) that delivering a good road network requires more resources.

I am delighted by the close working relationship we have now forged between @CityofBulawayo and @zinaraZW which is in the best interests of our citizens.
What has not been mentioned in the press reports are the remarks I made complimenting both Zinara leadership and our own management for the type of machinery which has been purchased.
We have bought Caterpillar @CaterpillarInc machinery and New Holland tractors both of which are leading brands. In other words we have bought the best equipment possible to give our Works Department every possible assistance as it tackles the challenge of rehabilitating our seriously dilapidated road network.
A new era for Bulawayo roads
Bulawayo’s road rehabilitation efforts have received a major boost following the commissioning of road equipment worth close to US$1 million, procured using funds disbursed by ZINARA.
The milestone further cements the strong working relationship between ZINARA and the Bulawayo City Council, as the city moves to enhance its road maintenance capacity.
The newly acquired equipment which include a grader, backhoe loader, and a soil compactor is expected to significantly improve efficiency, reduce turnaround times, and strengthen service delivery across Bulawayo.
Bulawayo Mayor, Senator David Coltart, commended ZINARA for supporting the procurement of high-end equipment that is set to transform the city’s road infrastructure landscape.
He also urged City authorities to put in place a comprehensive maintenance strategy to ensure the equipment remains in optimal condition.
The acquisition is in line with ZINARA’s Capacitation strategic pillar, which seeks to empower Road Authorities to own critical machinery, reduce reliance on hiring equipment, and promote sustainable and cost-effective road maintenance programmes.
