The Bill S-3 focus group meeting that was scheduled for tonight, January 23, at the Kawehno:ke Recreation Center has been CANCELLED due to inclement weather.
If you would like to know more about Bill S-3, Collaborative Process on Indian Registration, the Focus Group Meeting is tonight at Iohahi:io Adult Center from 6-9 pm.
Also did you know that Akwesasne took control of it's own Membership on June 26, 1987 and will continue to control Membership after the self-government Agreements are passed.

In 2017, according to the federal government, 229 Bands controlled their own Membership, while 38 control Membership through self-government legislation outside of the Indian Act.
With self-government agreements there is no 'one size fits all' approach, it varies from group to group, depending on their unique needs and priorities and their vision of self-determination.
#DIDYOUKNOW There are 22-self-government agreements across Canada involving 43 Indigenous Communities. There are also 2 education Agreements involving 35 Indigenous Communities. Currently there are about 50 self-government negotiation tables across Canada & Akwesasne is 1 of them
