Gauteng police have arrested 17 suspects in an intelligence-led operation in Sedibeng after receiving information about a planned truck hijacking.

Four suspects were wounded when they opened fire on police:

Police recovered one rifle, four pistols, ammunition, a signal jammer, false number plates, five vehicles, police uniforms, a Gauteng Traffic Police uniform and blue lights.

Investigators believe the group was preparing to hijack a truck carrying electronics. Two vehicles, a Toyota GD-6 and Toyota Quantum were fitted with false plates and blue lights, while the jammer was found in the Quantum.

The suspects face charges including attempted murder, possession of illegal firearms and ammunition, impersonating police, possession of a signal jammer, conspiracy to hijack a truck and possession of police uniforms and blue lights.
