So patronising to excuse Kenyon's inarticulacy on the grounds that he's a working-class man. You can be a working-class man *and* be highly articulate, as various MPs (and countless others) have shown over the decades #BBCQT
Marjane Satrapi died today.
Her work incredibly matters, she showed millions of people what the regime hides.
In fact, Persepolis was so controversial that Iranโs government sent a letter to the French embassy in Tehran to protest it and pressured organizers of the 2007 Bangkok Film Festival to remove it from the lineup.
'This is what mastery looks like'
The new Tempest at @TheRSC is packed with talent that has nothing left to prove. The result is a production of utter assurance and belief in the text
@thebasecreates I think it's important to mention the comic scene after this too, when a soldier seems entirely unmoved by the speech and says he'd rather be drinking in a London pub
Still think I was basically right about this! There was so much clamour last season for a 'proper' centre-forward but I still reckon Arsenal might have been better without one
@barneyronay But they might not have made those chances if they'd had a 'proper' centre-forward. And they've plenty of players who can score goals. It's like how Lukaku was the final piece in Chelsea's jigsaw, until it turned out that he was actually from the wrong jigsaw and it all broke
@post_liberal@alisonwallis60 Yes, perhaps he did take too long to make a substitution. But if he'd made a substitution, England might have gone on to lose in normal time
@post_liberal@alisonwallis60 Home advantage counts for barely anything in terms of winning international tournaments. The last host to win a WC or Euros was France in 1998. I agree it was the best chance England have had, but that doesn't mean England should have won. That Italy team was on a great run too
@alisonwallis60@post_liberal I can see how it looked that way, but I think there were footballing matters to consider too. I do think there's a long-term issue with mentality as well though!
@post_liberal@alisonwallis60 They were still stronger than England in key areas. Home advantage counts for very little in international tournaments and Wembley was toxic that night anyway. And the fact Italy as a *country* hasn't qualified for a WC since 2014 doesn't mean that particular *team* was poor
@post_liberal@alisonwallis60 They were superior to England in central midfield (Jorginho and Verratti v Phillips and 2021 Rice) so were always likely to exert control as the match wore on. Taking it to penalties was the best chance England had of winning
