Merry Christmas, Ndi Enugu.
May the peace, joy and blessings that come with the birth of Christ fill your lives and families with laughter. Have a wonderful celebration.
Today, I joined the Catholic faithful at St. Joseph's Catholic Parish in Emene, Enugu, to celebrate the episcopal golden anniversary of the emeritus Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev. Anthony Okonkwo Gbuji.
Bishop Gbuji's life is one that is inspiring. He is a symbol of selflessness, hardwork and excellence. These virtues imbued in his lifelong dedication to duty and service as a clergyman made his episcopal accomplishments outstanding. Indeed, Enugu State is fortunate to have benefitted from his sacrificial and impactful journey as a priest.
While working as a teacher at the St Paul's Minor Seminary in Benin he blazed the trail, impacting knowledge on the younger ones. Subsequently, he made his mark as a principal at St. Paul's Grammar School, Ebu, Delta State. Issele-Uku was not left out, he did amazing works to the glory of God there. In Enugu Diocese, he laid the foundation for the Godfrey Okoye University that is today one of the leading private universities in the country.
He also championed the New Evangilisation, which has earned him the sobriquet of the Father of New Evangilization.
As he marks his golden episcopal anniversary today, I felicitate and celebrate him on behalf of the government and good people of Enugu State. Bishop Gbuji's legacies will continue to inspire us!

Today, I received in my office the Indonesian ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Usra Harahap, who led a team of senior delegates from the Republic of Indonesia. He expressed the country's interest in deepening relations with our state in the areas of trade, investment, and other socio-economic spaces for mutual benefits.
While exploring the areas of interest that could lead to a productive partnership between Enugu State and Indonesia, the ambassador noted that investing in our state would solidify bilateral ties and create more opportunities for mutual growth and prospects of further investments in the future.
Dr Usra said Indonesia's expertise can help to increase agricultural productivity and ensure food security in Enugu State. He also expressed Indonesia's willingness to collaborate with our state in areas such as food processing, agriculture machinery, irrigation, and education through scholarship programme, to afford brilliant Enugu students postgraduate and undergraduate opportunites in the Asian country.
Indonesia’s plans to invest in our energy and mining sectors delights me because Enugu State is rich in mineral resources, agriculture and tourism. I therefore commended the ambassador and his team for picking special economic interest in Enugu State, while also informing them that we have created an enabling business environment, and are ready to partner with Indonesia.
To ensure that Enugu becomes the best state to invest in, my government has already activated the mechanisms that would derisk investment flow and enable the ease of doing business, among other strategies.

Today, I signed into law, the Enugu State Electricity Bill. This is a major step towards the growth of our economy and making our state the ideal destination for investment, business, tourism, and living.
Since electricity is now on the concurrent list, this Law will enable us to play in all the value chain of the electricity industry.
It will ensure that Enugu State has her own electricity market, to be able to function in the generation, transmission, and distribution segments of the market, because without regular power supply, industry or private sector investment would not thrive.
My administration's goal to grow Enugu State’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion would translate to a pipe dream without adequate and stable power supply, hence the need for the Electricity Law.
I therefore commend the leadership and members of the House of Assembly for the expeditious passage of the Bill, and for their partnership with my government for the good of Enugu State.
