Our environment team was out today inspecting a permitted waste facility near Bristol. We have concerns that unpermitted activity may be taking place.
We were joined by @WeAreOpenreach, and @ASPolice who seized a quantity of stolen telephone cables on site.
Work starts 1 June at Polmorla Pump Station, Wadebridge. Over the next year, we'll be refurbishing the site, upgrading tidal flap, control & safety systems to reduce flood risk for 125 homes and 100 businesses. Thanks for your patience while we invest in your community's future.
Waste crime costs England £1 billion a year – yet only around 27% is reported.
That means serious, hazardous crimes go unchallenged.
We’re working with @DefraGovUK and @EnvAgency to highlight that waste crime isn’t a nuisance. It’s a crime.

Since this winter's floods, we've been working hard across the Wessex area, inspecting more than 1,700 assets to date, identifying where repairs are needed, reviewing our procedures & working closely with partners & communities to understand the impact on local people.
Good news for Romsey: we've strengthened the local flood alleviation scheme with improvements including raising Stockbridge Road by 40cm & installing a permanent demountable flood defence at the river weed compound.
Less disruption. Faster response times. Better protection.
The first samples from new bathing waters in Newton and Noss and the River Fowey in Lostwithiel have been tested.
We look for E. Coli and Intestinal Enterococci and the first results are incredibly low for both bacteria.
