Setting the topic of carbon dioxide aside. From what I've heard even many climate change deniers agree that global average temperatures have risen in an unprecedented rate in the past few decades. This is just measurements and data which will always supersede theory. Just google it and you'll find many different sources. As for why this is, probably not due to age-old patterns that take thousands of years.

Yup, there were also scientists saying the opposite. Experts, like anybody, can be wrong. Experts have disagreed in medicine, physics, history etc. But when there is an overwhelming consensus among nearly all experts in a field of study, then it's safe to say it's true. And there is an overwhelming consensus among Climatologists that Climate Change is real even if some papers say otherwise.
