The Active Forces in Environmental Pollution, Degradation & Unsustainable Resource Exploration in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria are the same across African continent.
CLIMATE JUSTICE = #Links Human Rights, Social and Economic Development to Achieve People Centered objectives on Fair distribution of Resources for climate adaptation & mitigation.
The forest floor is inhabited by a large number of soil organisms that exhibit a great diversity of species. These are, for example, fungi, bacteria, insects and worms, to name but a few. We need more forests again after we have destroyed 50% of the forests in the last 100 years.
The Niger Delta Red Colobus was discovered by scientists only 30 years ago in Bayelsa. Now its populations have dropped nearly 80% due to habitat loss and bushmeat hunting. Now 25 most threatened primates globally. Less than 500 individuals remain in the wild. We must act now.
Nigeria forest is rich in diversity of wildlife including 899 species of birds, 274 mammals, 154 reptiles, 53 amphibians, and 4,715 species of higher plants. But it's among highly threatened on the planet due to uncontrolled logging, oil exploration and sick environmental laws.
Happy #WorldWildlifeDay!
Did you know that our forests contain:

This year’s World Wildlife Day theme – ‘Partnerships for Wildlife Conservation’ – highlights the need to work across governments, civil society, and the private sector to turn commitment into action.
POOR INDIGENOUS PEOPLE MITIGATING CLIMATE CHANGE THAN THE RICH IN DEVELOPED COUNTRIES
Indigenous people made up of 5% of world population, 15% world disadvantaged people, Caring for 25% of Earth Surface and Protecting about 80% of remaining biodiversity on the planet.
90% of world’s people to face combined extreme heat and drought. Compound threats will most severely affect poor people and rural areas. Africa will suffer most.

Climate Change solutions requires development & applications of natural resource management strategies that ensure sustainable use of water, soil, halt biodiversity decline and deal with emerging issues such as growing demand for renewable energy.
