President Trump nominated Texas Rep. Wesley Hunt as the next U.S. Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.
Hunt is a West Point graduate and former Army captain who spent eight years as an AH-64 Apache helicopter pilot.

He flew 55 combat missions in Iraq and was deployed twice to Saudi Arabia as a diplomatic liaison officer working with the Royal Saudi Land Forces Aviation Corps. He was actually in the Kingdom when U.S. forces killed Osama bin Laden in 2011.

After an unsuccessful Senate run this year, Hunt is leaving the House. Trump is putting a combat veteran who already knows the region into one of the most important diplomatic posts in the Middle East.

Hunt called it the honor of a lifetime and said he will advance Trump’s peace-through-strength agenda.
