But let me add the supervision gospel:

Never trust anyone else to read the tape for you.

Hold it yourself,

read it yourself,

mark it yourself.

Do the 3-4-5 on ALL four corners, not just one. I’ve seen plots that were perfect on one corner and still rhombus-shaped because the opposite corner was off by 15 mm.
After the four corners, measure the two diagonals. They MUST be equal up to the last millimeter. If they differ even by 1 cm, you’re building a parallelogram, not a rectangle.

Start over.

Once the diagonals match, lock those corner pegs with concrete or big stones so the strings don’t move when the excavation starts.

Tip: Do it early morning when it’s cool. Tape expands in the heat and you’ll chase ghosts the whole day.

I’ve had to break fresh concrete twice in my career because someone “trusted the fundi” on the tape. Never again.3-4-5 gang for life, but diagonals are the final judge. Who else has eaten humble pie because of a 2 cm difference in diagonals? ”
