[In-School Meeting] The Western Cape held in-school meetings at Masibambane Secondary School & Manzomthambo High School. The Equalisers were mobilised by the Learner Committee members to come to the meetings in their schools, where they learned about who EE is, the work that we do & ways that they can work on their in-school campaigns. #EEHumans

[ EC Mass Meeting] 💛🖤 On 24th of July 2026, Eastern Cape held a Mass Meeting on the Minimum Norms and Standards.

The aim was to compare government benchmarks to the reality in our schools, and reflect on progress made in achieving the Minimum Norms and Standards for Education.

They also discussed the importance of School Based Committees, and why members must identify a cause to fight for. As activists, it is important to create awareness and challenge the status quo.

General Secretary Itumeleng Mothlabane, gave words of encouragement. She reminded us why young leaders must create the change they want to see, and why Equal Education will always be a platform for advocacy and a movement for the people.

[KZN Youth Group] On Saturday our KZN Equalisers had a youth group where they discussed Equal Education’s Theory of Change and how we turn it into action.

Quality, equal education for all happens when organised communities, backed by research & legal tools, put pressure on government to be accountable.

We build power by growing local branches, developing member leaders, and turning school issues into campaigns.
We advocate through petitions, research, media, and litigation.

The Youth Group was co-hosted with the @Equal Education Law Centre. Equalisers learned about their rights and access to justice, with sessions on scholar transport, bullying, and school infrastructure.

Parents met yesterday at Luzuko Primary.
We fought to have Circuit Manager Ms Booi present. She promised the technical team will do a site inspection today.

This is not the first time this project has been abandoned. We will keep monitoring and meeting with the community until our kids are safe.

Most painful learning that some learners have respiratory conditions from the materials at the school.We need answers. We need action. Now! @ECDOEZA #FixOurSchools

[KZN Facilitator Meeting] Today KZN facilitators came together to prepare for a Youth Group happening this weekend.

The content resonated, it’s exactly what we’re doing on the ground,organising, advocating, and pushing for quality education for every learner.

[School Readiness] The Equal Education Eastern Cape Team was on the ground this morning supporting parents and community members of Luzuko Primary School as they demonstrate against years of infrastructure decay and continued delays by the @ECDOEZA

Teaching and learning has been disrupted since the start of the school day. The community is waited for the department to send a representative to respond to their concerns.

The principal called the circuit manager to report the protest. The circuit manager refused to come to the school and instead told the principal to call the police on the parents, community members, and learners who are part of the demonstration.

The community is demanding urgent action. No learner should be forced to learn in unsafe, crumbling schools.

[2 Day workshop on Capacity Norms ]🖤💛✊🏽 Last week In Daveyton in Gauteng , Equalisers and Facilitators came together for a two day Capacity Norms Task Team Workshop facilitated by the EE Research Department.

We unpacked the draft School Capacity Law, discussed classroom sizes, overcrowding, and how school capacity is calculated.

The goal is to strengthen our submissions and build a task team ready to lead the fight for safe, dignified learning spaces for all learners.

[Media] Equal Education recently had an interview on @Powerfm987 and @ukhozi_fm on the recent circular released by the Department of Basic Education prohibiting vigilantism around all schools. Section 29 of the Constitution, which protects the right to education, must be upheld.

In the spirit of 67 minutes of Activism, the Eastern Cape Learner Committee members kicked off the Reading Revolution for the province. We went to the King William's Town Youth and Child Centre. We read books from Book Dash, whose theory of change is to enhance caregiver-child interaction, boost oral language skills and emphasise the importance of literacy. Our members also donated clothing to the centre. #67Minutes #ReadingRevolution

[Media Statement] Equal Education welcomes the Department of Basic Education's Circular S7 of 2026, which prohibits vigilantism and violence in and around schools while reaffirming all learners' rights to a safe learning environment.

[Youth Group] Equal Education, together with the @EElawcentre, hosted a youth group on Access to Justice in the Eastern Cape.

This session equipped our Equalisers with knowledge of what the Constitution is, what their rights are and the power of Section 29 when it comes to protecting their right to education.

The Equalisers also reflected on the education system before and after democracy.

[Education Series] 📑 This month Equal Education took to the streets, to Parliament, and to the courts.

We demanded access for unplaced learners in the Western Cape, reflected on 50 years since 1976, and brought youth together at Constitution Hill for accountability in education.

We also tracked key wins, The Constitutional Court ruled the sale of Tafelberg School unlawful, and found the Copyright Act unconstitutional for lacking accessible formats.

Our fight is for every learner, in every classroom, in every community.

[Submission] We present our written submission to the Portfolio Committee on Finance in the KZN Legislature on the Appropriation Bill. Our submission highlights the social impact of provincial budgets on basic education. We call upon the KZN government to use the budget to make sure that the right to basic education is protected under section 29 of our constitution.
