Russia, which currently scores 23 out of 100 on Equaldex’s Equality Index, is one of the platform’s top 20 countries in terms of traffic. For Russia’s LGBTQ+ community, sites like Equaldex are a vital resource, and the Russian government is cutting off a lifeline.
Equaldex, a global database tracking LGBTQ+ rights, has been threatened with a ban in Russia. The government has demanded that content that “promotes LGBT relationships” be removed within 24 hours. If Equaldex does not comply — which it of course will not — it will be blocked.
