📣 Economy Minister, Diane Dodds, has cancelled BTEC exams for 2021!
A success for SSUNI’s #EqualityForBTEC campaign!
Alternative arrangements will be released in the near future but coursework continues!
After urging her to do so, I am pleased to see that Minister Dodds has finally announced the cancellation of Essential Skills and vocational exams for the rest of this year.
Shameful that it took this long when Alevels and GCSEs had already been cancelled weeks ago!
I asked the Economy Minister to provide urgent clarification to BTEC students who have, once again, been treated with disregard & left waiting anxiously for updates
She says she intends to make an announcement in the "near" future
Not good enough, students deserve clarity now!
📣 The Economy Minister has today announced the cancellation of all Essential Skills and vocational exams for the rest of this academic year 📣
The news comes over two weeks after GCSE and A Level exams were cancelled by the Education Minister. Our statement ⬇️
It’s great to see the transfer test cancelled. It was fantastic to see A-Level & GCSE exams cancelled last week. It was needed.
BTEC students have been completely abandoned, again. Left with prolonged uncertainty & treated as an afterthought. @niexecutive this is beyond a joke.
You are so right @EllenFearon ... many FE students have been left in limbo and it is having a hugely negative effect on their wellbeing! The Colleges are not to blame here!
Students need certainty, and soon! Life is difficult enough for them at the minute! @nusuk@NUS_USI
The inequality BTEC students have received throughout this pandemic has been staggering. These students are still anxiously waiting on clarity over alternative assessment arrangements.
The Economy Minister needs to cancel BTEC exams and provide urgent clarity on mitigations!
📢UPDATE on #EqualityForBTEC@DianeDoddsMLA is keeping the awarding of BTECs “under close review”
Minister Dodds should cancel BTEC exams following Minister Weir’s announcement on A Levels and GCSEs in the Summer.

Gavin Williamson showcased abysmal leadership when he delegated the decisions regarding BTEC examinations to individual colleges. This caused unnecessary widespread confusion and uncertainty amongst colleges, teachers and students. #EqualityForBTEC
In the UK there are over 130k BTEC students. Pupils who were overlooked, disregarded and neglected by @educationgovuk when GCSE and A-Level exams were cancelled. #EqualityForBTEC
A BTEC Level 3 diploma is a Further Educational qualification equivalent to A-Levels. BTEC students deserve equality and fairness. BTEC students are competing against A-Level students for university places who are not sitting exams. Cancel ALL exams! #EqualityForBTEC
SSUNI has written to Economy Minister Diane Dodds calling for #EqualityForBTEC.
If A Level exams are cancelled BTEC exams must be too!
