As someone who has reported on AI for 7 years and covered China tech as well, I think the biggest lesson to be drawn from DeepSeek is the huge cracks it illustrates with the current dominant paradigm of AI development. A long thread. 1/

#EUDR BREAKING: The Commission looks set to propose a 12 month delay to the controversial anti-deforestation rules. This follows pressure from EU governments, trading partners, industry associations and civil society.
#DueDiligence Alert! Bloomberg reports that Chancellor Scholz has asked the EU to delay implementation of the #EUDR. He's concerned the impacts on the printing and publishing sector and comes on the heels of requests from commodities producers in Brazil, Indonesia and Malaysia.
The #CSDDD and other guidelines are clear on what responsible disengagement as a last resort looks like, and Bangladesh doesn't meet those criteria at this stage, so will buyers work with suppliers to resolve the issues and achieve a win-win outcome?
#Bangladesh#DueDiligence Alert! The Financial Express published a brutally frank but balanced editorial which unpacks the interconnected political and economic factors fuelling the current labour unrest. 2/

For some buyers, their exposure to risk in Bangladesh should be quantified and disclosed in their #CSRD report due next year, but the more immediate test will be whether buyers decide to engage or disengage. 9/

Without agreed rules regarding ownership and use of farmer data, this could exacerbate the asymmetries of information and power that are driving unsustainable levels of inequality and poverty in many coffee farming communities. @DoroBauPau@justine_nolan@equiception
A recent interview in which I raise concerns about the ownership and use of the data collected in terms of the EU Deforestation Regulation. This is critical now because access to the coffee value chain depends on farmers being able to provide data. 2/
@sarahcharlz speaks with Auret Van Heerden (@EquiDiligence) about how the emergence of these technologies has brought the question of data ownership to the forefront, concerns about privatisation of data, and the implications in the coffee supply chain.

Are we seeing the emergence of a new nexus of labour law, competition law, consumer protection and green claims laws? This is particularly interesting given all the speculation of a possible roll-back of due diligence laws in the EU. #humanrights#duediligence
Further to the recent labour rights cases brought by Prosecutors in Milan, Italy's antitrust agency is now probing whether Armani and Dior breached the Consumer Code and misled consumers. The antitrust agency oversees consumer rights and unfair commercial practices.
This is an interesting example of authorities using hard law to hold companies accountable for their soft law code of conduct commitments and might set a precedent that other countries will follow.
