India's IT sector enters Q1 FY27 earnings season with three specific numbers framing every result.
Infosys hit a five-year low at approximately Rs 1,035 after Accenture's guidance cut in June. The Nifty IT index fell to its lowest level in over three years in the same session.
Wipro faces the possibility of a fourth consecutive year of revenue decline according to Goldman Sachs. Four consecutive years of declining revenue would be structurally significant for a company still positioned as a large-cap growth name.
The Nifty IT index has underperformed the Nifty 50's 6.3% quarterly gain significantly. The sector that most needs institutional confidence to recover is the one where both FPI and domestic MF buyers have been absent simultaneously in 2026.
FPIs have been consistent sellers of IT stocks throughout the year, reducing exposure as part of the broader India equity exit. Mutual fund inflows have concentrated in small-cap, mid-cap, and thematic categories, not large-cap IT.
When the sector's largest bellwether has already warned, the bar for Q1 IT results is the lowest it has been in several years. Low bars can be cleared. Whether they restore institutional conviction is the harder question.
