We are delighted to announce that Marina Bastero Acha has been awarded a five-year postdoctoral fellowship funded by the Basque Government. This fellowship will enable her to lead her own research project which she will conduct between the UW and the U. of the Basque Country.

Our Research Assistant Timo has successfully completed a two-week research stay at the German Archaeological Institute (DAI) in Rome (1–16 November 2025).

Following her research stay in Portugal, Dr. Lorena Pérez Yarza presented preliminary results of the study carried out in collaboration with Dr. Javier Herrer Rando at the XXIII World Congress of the International Association for the History of Religions (IAHR), held in Kraków.
On 7th November, Marina participated in the international conference I Sarcofagi Paleocristiani Romani: Nuovi Studi, Nuovi Approcci, organized by the German Archaeological Institute (DAI Rome) and the Vatican Museums.

On November 24, Marina carried out a research visit the Museum of Burgos. During this session, detailed autopsies of several inscriptions were undertaken to explore the existence of a local epigraphic workshop and to examine the stylistic and technical features.

In July 2025, our member of the team Lorena Pérez Yarza, carried out a research stay at the UNIARQ – Centre for Archaeology of the University of Lisbon, in collaboration with Dr. Javier Herrera Rando. The stay, funded by the CRAC Small Grants, took place from 3 to 10 July 2025 .
Lorena and Marina participated in the XXI International ARYS Conference, “Homenaje a Jaime Alvar”, held in Jarandilla de la Vera (11–12 September 2025) with the papel “Re-reading the Altars of Monte do Facho: Epigraphic Production and Religious Strategies in Late Roman Hispania”.
On 6 October 2025, the STONE-MASTERS project team organised an educational conference devoted to teaching. The programme included presentations on epigraphic narrative, school education and strategies aimed at a wide audience, as well as a panel discussion.

The ERC Stone-Masters Project welcomes a new team member, dr Martyna Świerk!
Within the STONE-MASTERS project, Martyna conducts prosopographical studies on craftspeople. She is also responsible for collecting data on mosaics and inputting it into the DAWE.

In May, Marina had the opportunity to conduct research under the ERASMUS+ programme at ELTE University in Budapest. During her stay, she was able to study third-century sarcophagi and outline her future line of research on traces of multiple production in epigraphic workshops.
We warmly welcome Mariana Bodnaruk who came to Warsaw last week to start a two-year Marie-Curie Skłodowska Actions (MSCA) fellowship under the guidance of Paweł Nowakowski. Mariana will be sharing office with the STONE-MASTERS team.
