I just paid for Elon Musk’s X/Twitter annual subscription using cryptocurrency.

Payment from China can be quite difficult, so when I saw that crypto payment was available, I decided to try it. Surprisingly, it actually worked.

I had used platforms like OKX before, so I already had an account. I bought around 70 USDT with 500 RMB, but it still wasn’t enough. Then I opened two futures trades and somehow doubled it, making a bit over 100 USDT.

After that, I immediately used the crypto to buy the annual X subscription.

For people in China who cannot pay through normal methods, crypto payment might be worth trying for subscriptions.

Friendly reminder though: stay away from futures trading.

I had already lost over 100 USDT before and quit. If it wasn’t because crypto could be used for this payment, I definitely would not have touched futures again.

用加密货币买了马斯克的推特年费会员….国内付款难…看到能用加密货币付款随尝试.还真行，之前因为会用欧意okx这些平台.所以只有账户的.用500块买了70来个usdt.钱还不够….开了两次合约翻了两倍赚了100多usdt.然后果断买了马斯克的年费会员…国内付不了钱的可以尝试加密货币付款订阅.还有友情提示，远离合约…我之前亏了100多个退场的，要不是可以加密货币可以付钱我是绝对不再碰的….

I turned an old iPad 3 into a PC monitoring dashboard + custom app launcher.

No hardware modification, no disassembly, no jailbreak, and no system tweaking needed.

The idea is very simple: I used Codex to build a small web app, then opened it on the iPad in a browser. Just like that, the iPad became a touchscreen control panel.

Right now it can display PC status such as CPU/GPU load, disk usage, memory usage, system volume, Codex usage, and more. It can also launch my frequently used websites, apps, folders, and scripts with one tap — for example ChatGPT, Codex, Gemini, Topaz, WeChat, QQ, VPN tools, etc.

The actual experience is much better than I expected. The cost is low, there is zero hardware modification, and it does not damage the device at all. Old tablets, old phones, and other touchscreen devices can all be reused in this way.

A little background: I found this iPad 3 by accident while browsing Xianyu, a Chinese second-hand marketplace. Someone local was selling a brand-new, unopened old iPad. I have always liked Apple’s earlier industrial design, so I bought it out of curiosity for a little over 300 RMB. At first, I mainly used it as a color PDF reader.

Later, because I did not use it for a long time, the battery drained completely and it would not turn on. It sat unused for quite a while. Recently, after several attempts, I finally managed to revive it. Then I spent a few hours using Codex to build this small web app and turned the iPad directly into a desktop control console.

So far, it works really well. It can also support many other functions: video playback, a small home-theater-style control panel, remote control for the PC from the tablet, and more. I have already tested these features and they work.

The cost is also very low. This kind of old iPad usually sells for only a few dozen to around 100 RMB on Xianyu, and even a brand-new unopened one is only around 300 RMB. It feels great to repurpose it like this.

Since I just finished the first version, I would also love to hear more ideas from others.

用一台老古董 iPad 3，做了个电脑监控台 + 自定义程序启动控制台。

不用拆机，不用改硬件，也不需要折腾系统。
核心思路很简单：用 Codex 写好一个网页程序，iPad 打开网页，就能变成一个触摸控制台。

现在可以显示电脑状态，比如 CPU/GPU 负载、硬盘占用、内存占用、音量、Codex 用量等；也可以一键启动常用网页、软件、文件夹和脚本，比如 ChatGPT、Codex、Gemini、Topaz、微信、QQ、VPN 等。

体验下来效果比我预想中好很多。成本低，零硬件改装，不会破坏设备，闲置平板、旧手机、触摸屏设备都可以这样利用起来。

顺便说一下，这台 iPad 3 是我之前逛闲鱼时无意看到的。本地有人卖全新未拆封的老款 iPad，我本人对苹果早期设计一直挺感兴趣，就花了 300 多块买了回来。原本主要是想拿来当彩色 PDF 阅读器。

后来因为很久没用，设备亏电到开不了机，一直放着吃灰。最近折腾了很多次，终于把它救活了。然后花了几个小时用 Codex 做了这个小程序，直接把它变成了桌面控制台。

目前使用，效果很好，还可以实现很多功能，看视频，做影院功能，远程平板控制电脑等等全跑通了。而且成本很低，这款平板在闲鱼也就卖几十块到一百块左右，全新未拆封也就300块左右，拿来改装爽的很。因为刚做出来，其他朋友也可以提出一些思路。
