Tony Lama --- yes, THAT Tony Lama ---- at his boot-making place in El Paso, 1930s. Tony was born to Italian immigrant parents in 1887. He learned the shoemaker's trade as an 11 year-old apprentice. He ended up in El Paso after a stint in the Army and the rest is history.

Traces of Texas reader Lonnie Dawson was driving through Hudspeth County not long ago when he was struck by this "miles and miles of Texas" scene. I've seen similar sights on countless occasions myself and am always humbled by them. A whole lotta nothin' in places out there.
