Writer of trifles
“The big trouble with dumb bastards is that they are too dumb to believe there is such a thing as being smart.” - Kurt Vonnegut, The Sirens
Okay, this is my final Kickstarter post, because I know it's getting tiresome. But the campaign is finally live, and I couldn't be happier. Now back to work on the next book! #ShamelessSelfPromotion

Following on from my previous post, if anyone feels like sampling the first chapter of Strangers' Gate, I've set up a Bookfunnel landing page just for you! Please do not forward to Pete Hegseth, as it will make him cry.

Exciting times! Now I just have to shift into promoter mode and get some folks to read and review this thing so that I can get some real-world sales. The life of an indie author is not for the faint of heart!
We're down to the final few hours of the STRANGERS' GATE Kickstarter campaign, so it behooves me to inform you that if you feel like backing a book that would definitely make Pete Hegseth cry, now's your chance! #shamelessselfpromotion

I never bemoan my near-misses in getting a trad publishing deal, or regret my decision to go the Kickstarter/indie route, but I will say this: if Blake Crouch had delivered the T-themed satire I'm about to release, his publisher would be popping champagne corks right about now.
Whoo-hoo! I reached my Kickstarter goal, so I can stop biting my nails and nervously hitting refresh every 15 seconds. Even better, there's still 20 days to go, so there's a slim chance that I'll hit my stretch goal and be able to produce an audiobook. https://t.co/sZ1xLd9RMd
Actual casual conversation I just had with my cat: "Oh, you want a treat, Nugget? Last time you had a treat Kookie just came over and took it. I mean, you didn't even contest it!"
Should I be worried about myself?
One of the really insidious things about AI is how it causes people to devalue legitimate artistic work. Case in point: after spending two full months filming, editing, & doing VFX work on my Kickstarter video, a relative cheerfully said "That looks amazing! Is that all AI?" 😡
So today I realized that I've basically run out of pre-launch things to do on my Kickstarter, which is great. But I'm so used to running around in a frenzy until the last minute on creative projects, it's a little disorienting to be ahead of the game. https://t.co/FynVacoBHI
I will say this: the Kickstarter process is not for the faint of heart! But I've finally gotten everything up to snuff, and the launch date of June 30 is fully locked in. And yes, I realize that this is basically a GoFundMe for starving artists, but I'm super-excited nonetheless.
I didn’t realize until I early voted yesterday that convicted felon & abuser Hiram Monserrate is running for NY state senate AGAIN, & now here he is glad-handing inside my fave coffee shop. Ain’t American democracy grand?
Huge police presence on the streets of Jackson Heights, including garbage trucks blocking the open streets. Not a normal thing! Asked an officer what was up & he replied simply “World Cup.” EXTREMELY sus. If Mamdani wasn’t mayor I’d suspect an ICE action.
Although it was impossible to post during the event itself due to non-existent cell service, I want to belatedly say that the Govs Ball Festival was an incredible amount of fun. Top tier event, & only 20 min from my front door!
The problem with self-marketing is that it basically kills your writing process for the length of the campaign. I’m really looking forward to launching this Kickstarter & getting back to my page-a-day routine.
The weirdest thing about this (likely) AI image posted by Trump is that if you look closely it's both a tapestry *and* a puzzle. I'm pretty sure it was created to parody maga cultist art, but it's impossible to know for sure. Just one more example of reality outpacing satire.
