In this election, Missouri made unprecedented progress by raising the minimum wage, mandating paid sick leave, and legalizing abortion.

And yet, as a nation, we took a step back and were reminded that progress isn’t linear.

I’m devastated that we are, once again, taking a chance on Donald Trump—someone who supports deporting political rivals and imprisoning journalists.

While we must accept the results of the election, we must not resign ourselves to four years of hardship. There are leaders across the country who remain committed to protecting our fundamental rights and defending our democracy.

And in our city, local leaders will continue to ensure St. Louis remains a place where overreach from the far-right is not tolerated and everyone receives the support they deserve.

To everyone feeling this loss, please get some rest; we need you to stay in this with us because we can’t afford to go back.

I am relieved the Missouri Supreme Court upheld the will of nearly 400,000 Missourians and ensured that the final decision rests with the voters.

From the moment the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on Dobbs, Missouri Republicans have worked frantically to undermine people’s right to bodily autonomy.

While we know the majority of Missourians understand the importance of reproductive freedom, that sentiment is not shared by fringe Republicans. We cannot allow a minority opinion to invalidate what we know to be true—that Missourians want the freedom to make their own reproductive health decisions without government interference.

As we celebrate today’s decision, we must stay vigilant as we head toward November. The fight for our rights is never over.
