Dr. Chris Baryomusi said that the government is going to provide lunch to medical interns.
Well, it's good that they now recognize that interns deserve something. However, medical interns need more than lunch.
They need:
1. Breakfast
2. Lunch (which is being provided)
3. Dinner
4. Transport
5. Airtime
6. Clothes
7. Rent
8. General upkeep, among other necessities.
They are not slaves. They need money to survive, support their families, send some to their girlfriends, and occasionally unwind and forget the stress of hospital work with a bottle of whiskey.
Give them money. #PayAllMedicalInterns
Yesterday, I had the honour of visiting His Highness Jude Mike Mudoma, Umukuuka III wa Bugisu at his residence.
I want to first thank him from the bottom of my heart for honouring @GongodyoSidney with his presence at the burial. For the Cultural Leader of our People to come and stand with the family of a fallen son of the soil speaks volumes. It meant everything to Sydney's family and to all of us.
But I also want to share something that gave me great Hope. His Highness informed me that he had already written to the relevant authorities formally demanding Justice for Sydney and calling for a PUBLIC TRIAL of his killers. The Umukuuka has spoken. The voice of Masaba land has been raised.
His Highness has pledged since his installation that his cardinal role is to ensure Peace and Unity for the Bamasaba people and today he is living those words.
The gruesome murder of Sydney Gongodyo Gyabi is an attack on every son and daughter of this land and our Cultural leader has made clear that the Bamasaba will not be silent.
We have the Cultural Institution standing with us. We have a King who has put his voice on the line for one of his own people. Now it is time for the Government, the Police and the DPP to match that energy.
The Umukuuka has written, Uganda has spoken. Now act!

Where is Sydney's car? What do the CCTV cameras show? Where is the woman who claimed her bag was snatched? Can the individuals captured on CCTV be identified?
In many investigations, vehicles are traced from their point of departure to the scene and beyond. Was Sydney being followed? Was this a setup? These are questions that deserve clear answers.
We call upon the relevant authorities to provide a transparent account of the facts and ensure that justice is served.

@roxie_ug Uganda police should train their officers to have a little courtesy, why would a @PoliceUg patrol just pass at a place where there’s a scuffle and it fails to stop to check what’s happening?
Ug police contributed to the death of Sydney
@Roniepat2 And these security guys were so quick to save Okello, why not intervene in all cases with the same urgency.
Clean the system, it's so unreliable and inconsistent.
Y’all remember when they arrested us in December 2021 and I almost fell off a speeding police pickup? Yes, that time medical interns were on strike decrying low pay among other poor welfare issues, and on this particular day we were arrested while peacefully walking to Parliament to deliver our petition. Yes, at that time we were being paid 700k per person and we demanded an increase in pay.
And following a prolonged strike that took about six weeks, the government responded and increased our pay from 700k to 2.5M monthly. But this change was implemented for only two years, then without any discussions with stakeholders they reduced it to 1M and now they have completely eliminated it.
This leaves me with so many questions? Does the government even know why they pay interns? I doubt. Do they even know why they increased our pay then only to take it back a few years later? Do they…. ???? 🤦♀️
Please stop politicizing everything. When we say pay interns we mean prioritize the health of Ugandans. 📌

@SpireJim Considering the state in which our public health facilities are, paying medical interns is already a bare minimum. I wonder why a sane govt wouldn't want to pay medical interns without feeling any guilt over the already existing gaps in the sector.
