As your child starts their fall sports season, here is one reminder:

Let the season belong to them.

Support them. Encourage them. Cheer for them.

But don’t make their playing time, role, statistics, or success your experience.

Sports are supposed to teach kids how to compete, handle adversity, work with others, respond to coaching, and keep going when things don’t go their way.

That means there will be hard days.

They may not start.
They may not play as much as they want.
They may make mistakes.
They may struggle.
They may disagree with a coach.
They may have to earn a role they thought they already deserved.

That’s part of sports.

And sometimes the best thing we can do as parents is not remove the struggle, but help them grow through it.

After the game, they probably don’t need an evaluation.

They need a parent.

Tell them you loved watching them play. Ask if they had fun. Listen when they want to talk.

And when things get hard, resist the urge to fix everything for them.

Because the lessons they learn from being a great teammate, handling disappointment, competing for a role, and sticking with something difficult will matter long after the season ends.

Parents, enjoy the season and help your child and team make positive memories.

It goes faster than you think.

The 2025 Lady Bears Volleyball opened the season at the MHSAA Invitational in Jackson over the weekend. Wins vs Clinton 2-0, Pearl 2-0, and Union 2-0.
Losses vs Gulfport 1-2, Lake Cormorant 1-2, and Oak Grove 0-2. Saw lots of great play! Super excited for this team!

The Lady Bears finished pool play 3-0 in the MHSAA Volleyball Invitational. We will play in the Gold Bracket tomorrow morning. There are lots of great volleyball teams in Jackson this weekend!!
