@realtannerhojo Pointing out that someone is partially correct is not a defense of where they take the argument from there. I can't stand half of what he says, but I live in the same city as him, surrounded by tech bros. I have to understand their perspective if I am to do anything about them.
@realtannerhojo "You sound like you agree with his point when you say ‘actually, he’s right; unions ARE powerful’." If that's what you hear, when all I say is "technically, the unions are influential," then we shouldn't continue, because we won't find common ground despite already standing on it
@realtannerhojo How did what I say assign blame for anything to anyone? I would take unions over tech companies any day, but lxeagle17 is in fact correct that the unions are extremely influential in California Democratic politics.
@ettingermentum Laying claim to "government that works" makes me bristle as a lefty, because functioning government programs is literally all I want. And that's despite the fact as an urban planning student I largely *agree* with them regarding zoning and housing!
@Leahgreenb They forget that Organizers "just" create the means for people to express their opinions, they don't magically mind control the masses into having opinions.
(Putting just in quotes because event planning is actually really hard and I personally hate it.)
@ettingermentum There's also the fact that "ideology" is an almost meaningless identifier for most voters. They will self identify as "X" and hold positions Y, Z, Gamma, and Tau.
@roomcguire Basic question: What is the "point" of culling? Is it to try and protect other flocks? Is the virus so deadly to birds that they're all going to die anyway, so might as well "dispose" of them in a manner you can control?
@maghrebimarx I think it's mostly "just" having a regular schedule where you see the same group of people. We're very good at forming bonds and providing support, with people we actually know and see regularly.
@azsweetheart013 California's Medi-Caid program is unironically 100 better than any of the private "health plans" I've ever gotten from an employer. Not happy to be unemployed right now, but happy to be on Medi-Cal.
@TNOQuoProQuid Is every decade of politics just the politicians of the time trying to prop up their economic status quo by harnessing the regressive "get off my lawn" mentality of their decade's forty and fifty somethings?
