The climate crisis is the greatest challenge facing humanity. It's also our single greatest opportunity to build a just and equitable future.
We are going to create 20 million jobs and an economy that works for all.
It's time for a #GreenNewDeal. https://t.co/NteQAl2D7M
The National Park Service is diverting $2.5 million, which is collected by entrance fees to pay for improvements at parks nationwide, to fund Trump's July 4 spectacle -- to which his political donors get VIP tickets, via @eilperin@jdawsey1 & @DanLamothe https://t.co/nh7UbGtDN4
@ChrisMikulewicz#AquaEco2018 there are always going to unforeseen consequences to actions taken by humans. Not like deforestation isn’t bad enough but the compiled impacts stretch well beyond the obvious. It just goes to show how connected everything truly is.
The boundary waters is home to pristine wilderness and world class sport fishing. Mining in northern Minnesota threatens the environment that 250,000 people visit each year. Of all the rock mined only 0.7% is the targeted copper ore. #AquaEco2018 https://t.co/I7VMnodxWl
A massive federal climate change report that was due next month is out today. It warns of devastating health and economic costs to the US. https://t.co/atBWtkq7yU
@mike_zampini I’m curious to see how long it might take the salmon to start spawning up river again. Salmon runs would bring a pulse of nutrients and large predators into the system #AquaEco2018
#AquaEco2018 invasive lake trout would have had to cover an 80 mile passage between Jackson Lake in Grand Tetons National Park to reach Yellowstone lake. High flows could have given a passable waterway between lakes. A theory I had never considered before!
@ChrisMikulewicz The return of beavers acting as ecosystem engineers in YNP will continue to change riparian habitats in the park. As streams are dammed beavers ponds are created and unique habitat that has been missing from YNP returns to the ecosystem #AquaEco2018
@Chris11915217#AquaEco2018 the flows have been crazy these last few days. At the lower college brook stage the water level rose 38cm from 10/31-11/1! I’m sure that continued to rise as the storms continued these last few days
Snakehead are a incredibly resilient and aggressive species. Effective management is increasingly difficult because of their ability to escape their aquatic ecosystems and travel over land to new ones #AquaEco2018
Invasive species can have detrimental effects to aquatic ecosystems. Invasive species such as Northern Snakehead outcompete native species and live in various harsh freshwater conditions. Stay up to date on local invasive species to know what you can do to help #AquaEco2018
@mike_zampini#AquaEco2018 at first beavers might seem destructive and counter productive to environmental conservation but that’s not the case. Acting as ecosystem engineers they provide a specific habitat to a variety of organisms large and small by damming waterways.
Environmental nonprofits such as @nh_lakes have been found to greatly improve water qualities in their communities! These areas demonstrated a reduced dissolved oxygen deficiency when compared to watersheds with no active environmental groups #AquaEco2018 https://t.co/HFWCKjL94k
#AquaEco2018 back in June while doing boat inspections for NH Lakes I discovered a piece of Eurasian Milfoil. It had hitched a ride on a canoe that was previously in the Billerica River in concord, MA. An area infested with aquatic invasive species such as this one!
