Loving the depiction of the deaf/HoH forensic scientist played by @sophieLstone in The Chelsea Detective. “wait for the beep”. “i didnt get that Max. lips!” Shoulder tapping. That constant expression of slightly irritated patience with the world around her. Scenes from my life :)
@emilypawley Emily, when my hearing aids break i use my air pods with “listen live” which is an accessibility feature on the iphone. Second, i sometimes use the app Petralex with headphones. You can also use “otter” for captions and i’ve been told ava app helpful for multiple speaker captions

@ChadRuffinMD I must say… my teachers offered tons of yellowing glue-smelling worksheets with slightly purple print, but i never actually saw the mimeograph machine that made them. Is that what this is? (Haha my first guess was odd pencil sharpener)
@LeahSoderberg Yeah… that advice could go quite wrong. There was nothing more uncomfortable than having a too-attentive, probably well-meaning male attending surgeon check in with me during surgical cases to ask if my breasts were ok and when I needed a pumping break…
@DrPoorman When I was a med student my family medicine and ob/gyn preceptors were CONSTANTLY disclosing this. I think it came across fine and made the provider seem a little young / too sharey, but not in a terrible way. Not terribly paternalistic tho.
@sicc_bitch As others said, check out #DocsWithDisabilities. There’s a podcast, too, with loads of info about surviving med training (which is def toxic) as a disabled person. Assumptions that all disabilities should be obvious to patients or happened post Med school are pretty ableist.
