I'm recruiting a PhD student for Fall 2022 to work on a newly funded project, collaborating with @LandonMarston and Kyle Davis. In my lab, we'll be working on bettering our understanding of water quality effects of wetland restoration across the MRB.
@nature_IA Karen sharing details on an oxbow they restored on @BooneRiver Prairie Creek in Kossuth county. There is a tile outlet into this oxbow, they are monitoring water quality at this site. Average 42% reduction in nitrates.
So excited to get started on this very cool project! What if we grew grass all year round underneath our annual crops? How much might we reduce flashy runoff and soil erosion? https://t.co/IUeMwpua8w
@ISUWaterChicks I am so excited to see what the research says about this idea! Will be watching diligently for articles from this project for years to come. Also, glad to see you are on the team with the two great gentlemen in the photo :)
One of the big takeaways from this conversation was that due to early harvest this year, we should have time to do things well. No need worsen compaction by driving on the fields when it's too wet.

Folks, you need to scout your alfalfa, cover crop, small grains and pastures for fall armyworms. This field was baled 2 weeks ago, was still green 10 days ago and now all growth has been eaten. The larvae are eating new growth emerging from the crowns. https://t.co/quySXd3BaB.
Job alert! MS student with interests in #ornithology & #QuantitativeEcology to join my lab in Sp 22 at @IowaStateNREM IA Coop Unit. Assessing co-occurrence of bobwhite and nongame birds of conservation concern on Working Lands for Wildlife sites. Pls RT! https://t.co/QQYNQbc1XM
