After internet shutdowns, sealed metro stations, barricades and brutal repression of students demanding justice, the blocking of BitChat's open-source code is yet another authoritarian assault on democratic rights.

The real fear of this government is not an app. It is the voice of India's youth.

We strongly condemn every attempt to restrict the right of students and young people to organise, communicate and engage in peaceful democratic protest. Democratic dissent cannot be criminalised.
