We have a growing Environmental program at OFA! 🌳🐞🔬
Today Ss from Environmental Class & Club volunteered with Tioga County Soil & Water to plant trees. We then continued our hands on learning after school with a hike at Oakley Corners State Forest. @OAUpdate@OA_Schofield
I love when students set up their own experiments just for fun! These Ss want to learn more about our Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches feeding behavior & preferences… so they setup a time-lapse camera to record the roaches overnight. #scienceiscool#curiosity#OFAenvironmentalclub
Creek Day for BioBlitz & Bug Camps with @OAUpdate Summer Enrichment! Campers learned how scientists use different species as indicators for stream health & did their own mini EPT assessment. We caught lots of crayfish, mayflies, stoneflies, & caddisflies! #streamecology

Had a great morning exploring Purposeful Observations with NYS Master Teachers at my alma mater! Thanks Mr. Sheldon, Mr. Lyons, & Mrs. Artruc for sharing your wisdom & experience.
Of course I had to sneak down the pool wing for nostalgia’s sake. #gobulldogs@livoniacsd
Using Biltmore sticks to determine tree diameter today as part of our Forestry practice. Of course we made a pit stop to visit the pigs at Ag 🐖 #spring#envirothon
Environmental Club explored macroinvertebrates in Owego Creek today! They learned identification characteristics for mayflies, caddisflies, and stoneflies to help analyze stream health. #OAScience#SpringEnrichment@OAUpdate
Who had fun making edible DNA models today? 🙋♀️Safe to say Ss were pretty proud of their creations. Ss did a great job analyzing their models to better understand DNA structure, too 🧬🧬 #studentengagement@OAUpdate
