This week we welcomed Dr. Kevin Ford (High Point Univ) to guide optimization of our Theia 3D motion capture. His biomechanics expertise is shaping the future of data-driven injury management and prevention! @RMUoHP
@RMUoHP + Baylor’s D1 Sports PT Fellowship welcomed Dr. Alexandra DeJong Lempke @afdlempke (VCU) for an inter-university lecture on wearable tech & military health. Incredible insights on injury prevention & field-based biomechanics! #WearableTech#MilitaryHealth
Telehealth Gait Retraining for Injured Runners 🏃♂️
💡 Takeaway: Our recent RCT shows telehealth gait retraining may be a low-risk, accessible option for runners without in-person care options.
✅ Key Finding: pain reduced more with Telehealth

1️⃣ ACL Graft Type & Recovery
🔹 QT grafts = lower psychological readiness & weaker quads vs. BPTB.
🔹 No major difference across competition levels.
⚕️ PTs should focus on mental & strength deficits in QT graft patients for better RTS outcomes.
#SportsPT#ACL
2️⃣ Psych Readiness & Biomechanics Post-ACLR
🔹 Mental readiness links to quad strength, NOT biomechanics.
🔹 ACLR patients have lingering deficits vs. healthy controls.
⚕️ PTs should assess psych readiness & quad function to optimize recovery.

Was great to catch up with colleagues and share some of our work (below) at the APTA Combined Sections Meeting last month in Houston, TX! Looking forward to getting these two projects into print this year. 1/3
📢Results from our RCT on Battlefield Acupuncture after shoulder surgery ... adding BFA to standard PT showed no extra benefit in reducing pain, mood issues, or medication use.

Fantastic talk by @ErinFlorks11 at #MHSRS2023 on her study exploring a clinically-feasible telehealth gait retraining intervention for military personnel with knee pain
Army’s Eric Huss suffered a potentially catastrophic injury Thursday vs Sacred Heart taking a skate blade to the neck. Army trainer, Rachel Leahy, jumped on the ice and calmly helped control/stop the bleeding. Another medical hero. Huss is out of surgery and is stable now.
One hero who should be recognized here: Last night, I was told the work of Bills assistant athletic trainer Denny Kellington in administering CPR to Damar Hamlin on Monday was absolutely vital.
The speed and skill with which he and others reacted = A huge difference-maker.
Shirley-ism: ‘You can strengthen something and then move it right, but you cannot strengthen something TO make it move right’. USF is blessed to have Shirley Sahrmann share her lifetime of wisdom with us!
Just returned home to NC from an awesome research meeting with LTC Mike Crowell, MAJ (P) Jamie Morris and the West Point Sports Medicine Fellowship Research Team! The future is bright!
