@jamesjonesesq I think it’s mostly that this type of furniture is very out of style. For people who don’t want contemporary, they are likely to consider mid-century modern or maybe art deco. Cleaner lines, more minimalist.
@Milajoy I mean... did the potholes in your town's roads stop forming when you paid off your house? Did your local police and fire stop needing to be paid? Library, schools, parks, water and sewer shut down?
@WesternNewYorkr And birth control. And allowing women as clergy. And letting priests marry. And IVF. But credit given where it’s due on war and peace, immigration, and helping the poor and sick.
@mattyglesias Yes, most people’s average daily mileage is a lot less than they think. I have a 30 mi round trip commute and in my Rav4 PHEV with avg battery range of 42 mi I could often go 2-3 months w/o filling up.
@mewsreporter@tylerblack32 The behavior does change. The weight gain is because the behavior reverts back to previous habits when people go off the drug.
@RadioFreeTom I lost to the 31-game winning streak guy in his 7th game, but - we don’t tell champion athletes to stop competing after they win 5 times! Top players should be able to push the limits of their skills. I do kind of wish I had been invited on *after* Jamie lost though…
@ferald_gord She's probably thinking she wants to make $ to pay for law school, instead of going into debt for it. A deferral means she's delaying it for a year or two. Smart move. I know someone else who is doing the same thing.
@Rott_ed_Bones@curecosmos It's been going around long enough that I suppose there are probably people who have heard it and would get mad if someone did it!
@Rott_ed_Bones@curecosmos That's an urban legend. I literally heard about it for the first time in 1994 when, I kid you not, someone sent it as a junk fax to our office fax machine and a co-worker was so worried she made photocopies of it and put it on everyone's desk chairs to warn them.
@JasonKPargin It is most definitely a thing in much of greater Boston & Worcester, but mostly in people 50+ who grew up in more blue collar families and areas.
@uhbucky I read a book set in Boston where the author referred to the neighborhood one character lived in interchangeably as "Southie" and "the South End"! From the way they described it they clearly meant South Boston, NOT the South End. Drove me crazy. And the author was from Mass.
@deray I agree. There was a backlash because the quantity of homework at many schools has gotten really out of hand. I believe that studies have shown that more hours of homework does not seem to correlate with better grades?
@wesleysmorgan A similar thing happened with Anne Rice. As her fame increased, her novels got more and more bloated and editors clearly had less influence. The quality definitely suffered.
@FractalEcho I would say the person who sent this to you needs some work on social and business skills. It sounds like you were setting up a meeting with someone you don’t already know? I don’t know why they would expect such an email to be “warm”. Just professional or businesslike.
@JustKrystin_ @CatieOsaurus Yep, I can access almost every library system in the state of MA between my town library card and my Boston Public Library card which is available to every MA resident
@CatieOsaurus Yes but if you are a person who goes looking for a specific book you may find Libby doesn't have it or there's a long wait. Some people are happy to browse what's available, some want exactly what they want when they want it. I do Libby + Audible for books I can't find at library
