The strongest comms strategies don't just build Founder brands, they build company brands that reflect the full scale, complexity, and ambition of what's being built. A visible leadership bench is a signal of stability and strength.
The African tech ecosystem has no shortage of charismatic Founders and great storytellers. But a PR strategy built around a single voice is a fragile one. Overexposure is a risk. So is the quieter, more uncomfortable truth that the company's entire reputation becomes tied to one person's conduct, publicly and privately.
Journalists looking for depth in a story want to hear the CTO's perspective on where the industry is heading. CFO can speak to the unit economics story investors actually want. The Country Manager in Accra can tell you what it really takes to operate in that market.
So, if you're caught in a single-voice narrative, who else on your bench can share the company’s story?

Pitches can be easy to ignore.
In a busy newsroom, they’re often just another email; quickly scanned, quietly judged, and, more often than not, passed over.
But over the past month at Wimbart, we’ve had the pleasure of having our fantastic intern Aishat Adebayo, see things from both sides. Shaped by her experience as a journalist, Aishat has not only thrown herself into the day-to-day of PR and life with #TheWimbarts, she’s also brought a valuable perspective from “the other side”.
What lands in a journalist’s inbox is usually the final stage of a much more deliberate process. - one that involves thought, shaping and intent. It doesn’t suddenly make every pitch more relevant. But it does change how they’re read.
This is a short reflection on what shifts when you’ve sat on both sides of the inbox; and the importance of building the PR-journalist relationship through consistency, credibility and communication.

African tech founders were building world-class solutions before the world started paying attention.
What Wimbart set out to do ten years ago was make sure those stories were told and heard regionally and globally. To hear that the work we've done over the years has contributed to changing the narrative means everything.
“The African tech ecosystem now has the attention of the world.” - @joekinvi. This is music to our ears. We'll take it and keep working to make sure it stays true.

For this edition of our African Media Spotlight, we headed to the MENA region.
Yasser Hakim has spent over 25 years telling business and economic stories from one of the world's most dynamic regions, from anchoring global news at @CGTNOfficial to championing startups and entrepreneurs that the world has been slow to notice. His belief is simple: there are so many talents in the MENA region and Africa that, with the right attention and platforms, would be global leaders in their fields.
His perspective on journalism, AI, transparency, and why founders sometimes misunderstand what journalists are actually there to do is honest, sharp, and worth your time.
Many thanks to Yasser for sharing with us! Enjoy the full piece here: https://t.co/bkuDjbwDhQ

A decade ago, PR was often treated as an afterthought. But African tech has changed. The ecosystem is more established, more visible, and less forgiving. For early-stage founders, comms is a major part of how credibility gets built.
In our latest blog post, @taye_maria highlights why early-stage teams should not have to wait for a Series A before communications become part of the plan.

Our Women's Month spotlight continues with @damiteidi, Principal and Head of Platform and Networks at @vp_fund, one of Africa's most active early-stage venture firms.
With over 13 years at the intersection of startups, capital, and ecosystem development, Dami leads Ventures Platform's post-investment strategy, designing initiatives that support portfolio companies across talent, governance, market expansion, and capital access. The goal is straightforward: help founders grow faster and build better.
What stands out when working with Dami is the care she brings to every detail. She asks the right questions, pushes for the best outcomes, and carries the Ventures Platform brand with a level of dedication that is genuinely rare. That kind of commitment does not go unnoticed.
People who show up like this are exactly why the ecosystem moves forward. We are glad to work alongside her.

Huge congrats to our founder and CEO @WimbartHope, featured in the @prweekuknews Power Book 2026 - her seventh year in a row! 🎉
Wimbart holds a unique place in UK #PR and #Comms: HQ’d in the UK but focused on delivering B2B and corporate comms and content for Africa, supporting homegrown startups, scale-ups and unicorns, as well as international companies building on the continent.
We consistently punch above our weight, securing global coverage and storytelling opportunities for companies and founders that have historically been underserved by the media.
Another Wimbart USP is our team. A truly diverse and representative collection of global PR professionals. We have always been, and will continue to be, unapologetically pro-women, pro-senior women, pro-BME, and pro-inclusivity when it comes to UK PR talent.

Africa’s tech funding is officially rebounding!
Startup funding hit $3.8B in 2025, with a 32% increase in deal volume, according to the latest Africa Investment Report from @briter_co. But there’s a catch: capital is flowing to fewer startups, making competition fiercer than ever!
That’s where storytelling matters.
Whether you’re raising your first round or chasing follow-on investment, a strong narrative shapes perception, builds credibility, and ensures investors pay attention.
From milestone announcements to thought leadership, your story is your strategic advantage.

A month after leaving TechCrunch for the “dark arts of comms,” Tage Kene-Okafor is still doing the Lord’s work.
Think you can just pay your way onto TechCrunch? Think again.
In episode 3 of #TheWimbartWay, Tage myth-busts one of the biggest misconceptions in African tech PR. TechCrunch doesn't copy-and-paste press releases. Journalists don’t collect money for coverage. Earned coverage comes with interviews, fact-checks, editors, and the follow-up questions you didn’t plan for.
His episode is live! Consider it his parting gift to the ecosystem. Catch it on:

Media businesses aren’t built like fintechs - but they still raise from venture investors who expect clarity, pace, and a path to scale.
Tomiwa Aladekomo, CEO of @InsideTheCabal, talks through what that looks like in practice - patient investors, monthly [then quarterly] updates, and being honest about what’s working…and what clearly isn’t.
He uses @Zikoko_Mag Z-Fest and the Burning Ram barbecue festival as case studies of experiments that didn’t turn out the way they hoped. Those “misses” didn’t become the next Coachella - but they informed the model behind Moonshot by TechCabal, now one of Africa’s biggest tech conferences.

What’s the hardest part of managing investor expectations when the model isn’t “venture-standard”?

After Iyinoluwa ‘E’ Aboyeji’s “tech press is over” critique in Episode 1, it felt only right to hear from someone who actually runs one of the most influential newsrooms in the ecosystem - and has to balance editorial independence with commercial reality every day.
Our CEO, @WimbartHope, has shared the thinking behind Episode 2 and why Tomiwa Aladekomo’s lens matters - the friction between founders who want control, journalists who have to hold the line, and a media business that still has to pay salaries. It’s also a reminder that “tell the story” and “run the business” are not the same job.
