I'm no traffic engineer, but I've seen this idea several times now and it seems wrong.

"Zipper merge at the last moment," they say.

"No," I say. A zipper merge may be orderly, but it is SLOW. Our goal is to keep the traffic moving.

If everyone merges over the course of a mile, we can do it at 60 MPH.
