You can debate the history of 1833, but the people living on the islands today are not political property to be transferred between countries. In the 2013 referendum, with a 92% turnout, 99.8% voted to remain a British Overseas Territory, 1,513 votes to just three. The UN calls for negotiations between Argentina and the UK; it does not give either country the right to ignore the islanders’ democratic wishes.
