We oppose Texas #SB8 as it prevents healthcare providers, including genetic counselors, from delivering quality patient care without fear of retribution. We support the right of individuals to make reproductive choices, including access to safe abortion. #GCchat
We're happy to share the #AccesstoGCs Act, which would authorize @CMSGov to recognize CGCs as healthcare providers, has been introduced in the US Senate as #S1450! Help us improve #AccesstoGCs to lower costs and improve patient health outcomes. https://t.co/Zb9IJL1BVq #GCChat
As always a thoughtful talk from @HHampel1 at the GC lunch at #ACMGMtg19 highlighting the challenge of counseling patients with VUSs in hereditary cancer genes where evidence suggests they don’t follow the classic pattern but present unclear level of increased risk.
Great talk at the GC lunch at #ACMGmtg19 from Birgit Funke from Veritas talking about the complexity of risk alleles and the importance of thinking about evaluating variants and the nuances from the lab and GC Perspective of communicating risk info to patients
Together, @renownhealth and @GenomeMed are spearheading a new and proactive communications model for returning test results to patients and providing comprehensive patient support for the #HealthyNevadaProject.

Scholarships can be pooled and under a neutral trust (Acgc?) like a scholarship mutual fund. Let’s not let our concerns about COI stop us from supporting students let’s find a way to mitigate COI #nsgc18
@AmyCurrySturm participating in advisory boards may create COI but those activities help me grow professionally, learning from other thought leaders #NSGC18
‘I’m told I work for industry, I think I work in the healthcare industry as we all do. ‘ well said @geneticsteve. it’s a distinction I hear all the time that suggests we are not all on the same team rowing in the same direction. We are all GCs here to help patients. #NSGC18
Great suggestion from Scott Weissman’s @chicagogenetics @GenomeMed for #genomics2020 consider education, policy, discrimination, regulations, etc related to polygenic risk scores, especially as it relates to insurance #NSGC18
Things to keep in mind about polygenic risk scores: 1. Other metrics may be more predictive. 2. Current risk scores are racially biased based on available data . Don’t give up the bathroom scale for sexy tech. Well said @laurahercher @GenomeMed#NSGC18
Optional genetic counseling linked to Consumer initiated genetic testing creates a great opportunity of explore patient uptake of pre-test genetic counseling. @GenomeMed is currently exploring this and looks forward to sharing that data at a future meeting #NSGC18
Totally agree, as we empower patients to decide if they need genetic counseling we need to help them and other HCPs understand what the value is so they can make an informed decision about whether to pursue genetic counseling. @GenomeMed
Are there tests that are so routine that they don’t require genetic counseling? @gillianhoo - doesn’t think that decision should be defined by the test but rather by the patient. #NSGC18@GenomeMed
