@floriandarroman True. Digital retreats will bankrupt you. Also, one of my rules: even if I don't plan to use it, I bring a laptop with internet and basic tools wherever I go.
Fiber is pretty good where I live, but after the last Spain-Portugal blackout, I got a mini and a solar kit to keep my office powered basically forever. I only use it sometimes when traveling, but I really like how easy they've made everything and that you can pay almost nothing to keep it connected as a backup then activate your plan when you need it
@astuyve It's long overdue, but also the last jump was crazy. Take for example the gpt5 mini family that became Terra (their own suggested equivalence). It went from 0.25/2 to 2/12 in just a few releases
GPT-5.6 Sol (xhigh) drops the ball with no justification or apparent reason after 5h25m running. GPT-6 Astra confirms there was no reason.
It just quit.
Very much like a freelancer missing a deadline and taking the rest of the Sunday off.
Big retardmaxxing this week:
> Sep 5, open cursor to play with astra and see they've forced codex plugin to the bottom left corner and you can't move it. What a loser move lmao.
> "Ok, fine, I'll get the codex app" I download desktop and play a bit with gpt6 on a $20 plan
> Burn through usage in like two prompts
> See two resets from old promos or something, I activate them, no remorse
> Burn through what's left in 10 mins. Good feelings. I call it a night.
> Sep 6, old business idea suddenly seems achievable. Get excited. Upgrade to the $200 plan. I think "did I just lose $400 with yesterday's resets? Retarded"
> Email OAI, ask for human escalation for an exception, no luck. Anyhow, $400 is what I used to pay for 10h of mid devs so who cares.
> Start building the new project like a mad man. Usage is about emptyat the end of the day but I let it do a long run overnight
> Sep 7, limit has reset overnight, so it doesn't stop and I'm 80% in the morning. Maybe a bug? Maybe OAI listened?
> Keep working like a mad man. Astra plans, sol executes. Unsupervised selfchecked multihour runs. It works great. It feels better.
> It hits 50% usage mid run and burns through $80 or so in backup credits. "What? I had usage left!"
> Support AI is useless but I see the drama on X about usages disappearing so I don't care anymore. Can't stop building.
> Sep 10, OpenAI stops offering the x20 plan, very likely forever.
> Not to get too excited but I've must condensed two months of work in a week.
> I think, "we'll pay $2000/m subs and be happy"
It's going to be difficult to focus on social drinking this weekend
AI may kill us all, but we would never have to prepare for a professional headshot ever again.
1st pic is from levelsio's app in late 2023. It looks awful now, but it has served its purpose well. Especially if you don't know me irl, it's close enough that you won't be surprised if you see me in a video or on a call.
2nd pic is from out-of-the-box ChatGPT today. It looks exactly like me, and like what a real photographer with some Photoshop would produce.
ChatGPT/Codex dictation is perfect for non-natives with broken English but the ~10 min cap per transcript makes the "let me dump my brain to AI" unnecessarily chunky because you may be walking around, come back, and just find that your last two minutes of talk are lost.
@ChatGPT, let people talk!
Do you know that feeling of looking backwards and realizing you were way dumber years ago, therefore forgiving you for making those decisions that would have been different if you were as wise as today?
So it's the same with AI but every 3 months
@alexanderrX_ The copilot plag is big. I still meet people, even prospects, that have just run a few prompts on copilot when it was powered by 3.5. imagine thinking that's "AI" nowadays lol
