Throughout January, our team has been working with officers and paralegals at Nairobi West Medium Prison to strengthen legal support inside the facility.
During this period, we trained front-line paralegals, deployed eSheria LexChat on designated devices, and supported structured, supervised use in line with institutional security and data protection standards. We also conducted a legal aid session in collaboration with @MumaKanjama Advocates, which added critical legal support and practical guidance for the people we engaged.
The impact is already visible. Paralegals are better equipped to handle case information, legal support is reaching more people in custody, and more inmates are receiving clearer guidance on their charges, court timelines, and legal options. As we continue this work, we are also launching a new esheria website dedicated to documenting our community impact initiatives, sharing progress from the ground, and opening more space for collaboration with partners committed to practical justice reform. https://t.co/q5hdlNdkH3

Is DNA a tool of suspicion or clarity? In re BDKK (Minor) [2026] KEHC 44 reaffirmed a simple but powerful principle: a child’s right to truth comes first. After DNA evidence proved the Applicant was not the biological father—despite being named on the birth certificate and pursued for maintenance—the High Court ordered his name removed. The Court held that anchoring a child’s identity on false paternity is harmful and contrary to the child’s best interests. DNA testing was upheld as a tool of clarity, not suspicion, ensuring a child’s identity is built on truth, not uncertainty. Read more https://t.co/erF31YT2az
We asked Esheria: Families of Kenyan nationals allegedly recruited illegally to fight in Ukraine with the Russian army are demanding action. They are calling on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to open a dedicated desk, investigate recruitment networks, and facilitate repatriation. What formal steps should families take, what legal remedies are available, and what is the government’s role in this case? https://t.co/HKUwwKF0Gi. @HakiKNCHR@KituoHaki@AmnestyKenya. Nairobi West Medium Prison | Access to Justice
In partnership with @MumaKanjama Advocates, we delivered targeted legal support at Nairobi West Medium Prison—combining pro bono services, rights training for warders, and advanced training for prison paralegals.
We also provided laptops, desktops, and printers to fast-track case management and secured the release of 21 petty offenders by settling their fines.
Practical interventions. Measurable impact. @ckanjama@LawSocietyofKe
We recently visited Nairobi West Medium Prison and witnessed how lack of legal information leads to delayed cases and unnecessary detention. Many remandees don’t understand their charges, bail rights, or court dates.
This post is an accompanying article based on what we observed there—why access to clear legal information matters, and how LexChat supports paralegals and remandees so justice is not delayed by ignorance.https://t.co/6DQrrkrcuE @Kenyajudiciary@PrisonsKe@CorrectionalKE@NCAJ_KE@AmnestyKenya@LabSheria@gathara@Meta@citizentvkenya@SafaricomPLC @NLAServiceKE. This bitch needs to be fired or something.
And imagine she's not only terrible, doesn't know her job, has the ego of a Chief Magistrate and she's barely a Resident Magistrate.
She's literally a glorified adjudicator kama wale wa Small claims
She's like the newest JO at Milimani
