“Pat. Bartholomew should lead by example &not engage in attacks on fellow Orthodox Christians. Lead by showing how to solve disagreements with peace & love. We have asked for face to face dialogue but have been ignored. Christ said we will be known by love we show one another.”
The monks of Esphigmenou monastery have repeatedly asked for peaceful dialogue with Patriarch Bartholomew to resolve their ecclesiastical dispute, but those requests have been ignored.
“We call upon Patriarch Bartholomew to use his influence with the Greek gov to urge them to cease their intervention in Church matters and end the acts of legal and political harassment of our peaceful monastic brotherhood,” said Abbot Methodios.
Abbot Methodios of Esphigmenou Monastery has called upon Patriarch Bartholomew to show brotherly love toward his fellow Orthodox Christians and approach their ecclesiastical disagreement with a spirit of love and charity, and not one of coercion and force.

.@irfambassador @stateIRF: Peaceful monks on Mt. Athos #Greece desperately need your help. Gvmt is about to seize 1500 year old #Esphigmenou monastery and throw out > 100 monks on the street. They have already seized the farm and cut off electricity, food, water, medical supplies
Peaceful #esphigmenou monks on Mt. Athos are being attacked by the #Greek government. The gvmt already seized two properties. This monastery is 1500 years old. Gvmt sounds like a third world country vs the birthplace of #democracy! @nikikitsantonis
Why doesn’t the #Greek gvmt just leave the #esphigmenou monks alone? All they want to do is to be left alone to pray in peace. The monks are literally bothering no one and will be out on the street without a place to live soon. #mountathos
