🎵 The advance was always the trade. A label offered money upfront, and in return it took the masters, the publishing, the distribution rights, and often a percentage of touring and merchandise on top. The artist got a number in their bank account and signed away the long term value of everything they had created.

🏛 That model made sense when the infrastructure was genuinely inaccessible. Studios, distributors, radio pluggers, physical retail. A label controlled all of it, and access to that infrastructure was worth something real. The advance was the price of entry into a system you could not reach any other way.

🌍 IMBA works on a different basis. Artists retain 50 percent of their rights while gaining access to global distribution, marketing infrastructure, and a community built around their growth from day one. The tools are there.

The ownership stays with the person who made the music.
