La chanteuse kurde Nûdem Durak est emprisonnée en Turquie depuis avril 2015, condamnée pour « appartenance à une organisation terroriste ». Lui reprochant des liens avec le PKK, la justice turque a retenu comme éléments à charge ses activités artistiques au sein du centre culturel kurde Mem û Zîn.

Sa famille et ses avocats alertent aujourd’hui sur la dégradation de son état de santé et demandent sa libération. Souffrant notamment d’un goitre toxique et d’ostéoporose, la jeune femme risque de perdre sa voix.

Au cours des dernières années, de nombreuses personnalités ont appelé à sa libération, parmi lesquelles Roger Waters, Peter Gabriel, Noam Chomsky, Angela Davis et Ken Loach. En France, Annie Ernaux, Juliette Binoche et Éric Cantona ont également rejoint cet appel.

La libération de Nûdem Durak et des milliers d’autres prisonniers politiques kurdes est indispensable à l’avancée du processus de paix. Elle constituerait un premier pas concret des autorités turques vers une solution politique durable.

از آمانوسِ سرافراز،

نشانِ نخستین جرقه،
در زیر خاک، صدایش را بریده بودند؛
اما در پهنه‌های خاک، دوباره به لرزه درآمد،
امید شکوفا شد و به جریان افتاد،
و ستارگان گرد خورشید حلقه زدند.
ژن، ژیان، ئازادی
گوشواره‌ها را کنار انداختند،
گوشواره‌ها و بندها و زیورها را؛
سازوبرگ سنگین را بر تن کردند،
دو گیسوی خود را به هم بافتند،
بر قامتشان بستند
کمربند/قطار نقره‌ای را.
سنگرها و مواضع دفاعی،
برای آنان به گهواره و بستر بدل شد.
بر بلندیِ کوه‌های پوشیده از برف،
از آمانوس تا زاگرس،
افسانهٔ ویان را بافتند،
بال‌های بِریتان از میان ابرها گذشت،
و تاج او مهِ دره‌ها شد.
ژن، ژیان، ئازادی
زیلان پیمان بست،
و همهٔ زیلان‌ها پیمان بستند؛
سَماع در زوزان‌ها
انتقام ما را گرفت،
و دیلان در بوتان
انتقام ما را گرفت.

In 2021, the KRG condemned Turkey’s deforestation in the Kurdistan Region and demanded it stop. On Oct. 1, 2026, a Kurdish environmental org reported forests being cut and burned again.

This is ecocide: destroying forests, disrupting biodiversity and wildlife in Kurdistan.

The scenes from Deir al-Zour should make us question where Western policy towards Syria is heading.

After years of swinging between intervention and neglect, the West is now backing the project of a “new Syria”. The EU alone has committed €620 million for 2026–27 to support recovery, reconstruction and the new authorities.

Yet this is what is emerging on the ground.

Short-term stability may appear to work, but policies that ignore the social and ideological conditions in which hard-line movements grow can create problems far greater than those they were meant to solve.

The world is not a collection of isolated islands. What is allowed to take root in Syria today may have consequences far beyond Syria tomorrow.
