To enhance the Chakula Mezani, Pesa Mfukoni agenda, I have officially launched the empowerment equipment distribution exercise at Kenyatta Stadium, targeting 680 community groups across Machakos County, alongside small-scale traders, farmers, youth groups, persons with disabilities, and other beneficiaries.
We are distributing 26,100 plastic chairs and 156 event tents for community groups; 86 car wash machine sets with 1,000-litre water tanks for youth groups; 8 Makiga brick-making machines; and 620 catering sets comprising 500 dozen spoons, 300 serving spoons, 120 food warmers, sufurias, and plates for local church and women’s groups. Additionally, 80 blow dryers and 80 kinyozi shaving machines will empower 160 persons with disabilities to establish beauty salons and barbershops.
Surface water is transforming lives and strengthening communities across Machakos. I understand what access to reliable water means for our people supporting households, livestock, agriculture and livelihoods. That is why I will continue investing heavily in water harvesting and surface water programmes to ensure more communities have access to this vital resource.
The opening and grading of the Katulani–Mukaa–Kibauni Secondary School–Kyaa Kimwe–Kiteneni Road will improve accessibility and make it easier for residents to access schools, markets, farms, and other essential services across Kibauni Ward.
This is part of my commitment to opening up rural areas, strengthening local trade, and ensuring that residents can move their goods and access essential services with greater ease.
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses.” — Acts 1:8
Joined the faithful of St. Jude Catholic Parish, Athiriver, for a Sunday Mass and the Sacrament of Confirmation, a sacred occasion that marks the strengthening of faith through the gifts of the Holy Spirit and a deeper commitment to Christ and the Church.
The Holy Mass was presided over by Bishop Norman King'oo Wambua of the Catholic Diocese of Machakos, who encouraged the faithful to remain steadfast in prayer, holiness, and service to God.
I congratulate all the newly confirmed Christians for taking this important step in their spiritual journey. May the Holy Spirit guide them, strengthen their faith, and lead them to serve God and humanity with love and humility.
With the prevailing tough economic times, no parent should be forced to stay at home instead of going to work due to lack of childcare support.
That is why, as an administration, we are investing in the construction and equipping of modern daycare centres across the county, where young children are safely left in the morning, cared for, fed, and provided with basic health services fully supported by the County Government of Machakos.
My commitment is to ensure working parents are empowered, children are well cared for, and families are supported to thrive economically and socially.
I had the honour of officiating the launch of the SHOFCO Machakos Community Resource Centre, a transformative initiative that resonates with our development agenda of Chakula Mezani, Pesa Mfukoni.
The centre will serve as a hub of opportunity and empowerment for our people through a fully equipped Community Library with free access to learning materials, a Digital Centre, and a Women Empowerment Centre that will equip women with tailoring and other practical skills for economic independence.
In addition, the initiative introduces a Community Bus and the rollout of Ksh.15 million in youth loans set to benefit over 2,000 young people to grow their businesses and improve their livelihoods.
This partnership reflects our unwavering commitment to education, empowerment, innovation, and sustainable community development as we continue creating opportunities that uplift every resident of Machakos County.
Today at Machakos County Referral Hospital, I commissioned emergency medical equipment, including oxygen cylinders, cardiac monitors, suction machines, and crash carts, towards strengthening emergency healthcare services across the County.
The equipment will be distributed to Machakos County Referral Hospital, Masii, Matuu, Athi River, and Kangundo Level 4 hospitals. This will address critical gaps in emergency response, critical care, and patient stabilization, especially in accident-prone areas. The investment will help reduce preventable deaths, minimize unnecessary referrals, and ensure residents access quality emergency care closer to home.
We are also enhancing Emergency Medical Services (EMS) through the establishment of a call and dispatch centre and by equipping ambulances with Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) systems to improve pre-hospital care and response times.
I sincerely thank Malteser International for their continued partnership in advancing emergency healthcare services in Machakos County.
When I assumed leadership of the County, hospital laundry services faced serious challenges, with obsolete and faulty machines forcing staff to clean linen manually, compromising efficiency, hygiene, and infection control.
To address this, we have installed modern laundry equipment at Machakos County Referral Hospital. The new system will improve laundry processing, strengthen infection prevention measures, and ensure a reliable supply of clean and safe linen for both patients and healthcare workers.
This investment will significantly enhance hospital hygiene standards, improve patient care, reduce the risk of hospital-acquired infections, and provide a safer and more efficient working environment for our medical staff.
For years, the Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) at Machakos County Referral Hospital has struggled with outdated and inefficient equipment, affecting medical procedures and compromising hygiene and patient safety standards.
Today, I commissioned a modern Sterilization Unit to strengthen infection prevention and improve healthcare delivery at the facility. The upgraded system will ensure proper cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of medical instruments in line with modern healthcare standards.
This investment will greatly enhance the quality, safety, and efficiency of healthcare services by ensuring timely access to properly sterilized instruments, supporting smoother surgical and treatment procedures, and providing patients with safer and more reliable medical care.
To improve efficiency and enhance patient experience at Machakos County Referral Hospital, we have established separate pharmacy units for inpatients and outpatients.
This initiative will reduce waiting time, ease congestion, improve workflow for healthcare workers, and ensure faster and more organized access to prescribed medicines for our patients.
When I assumed office, the kitchen at Machakos County Referral Hospital was in a poor state and inadequately equipped to effectively serve patients and staff.
I have today commissioned modern kitchen equipment that has transformed the facility into a fully equipped unit capable of preparing and serving meals to over 1,000 people daily. This major upgrade will enhance food safety standards, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen nutrition services for patients, staff, and caregivers.
The transformation reflects our continued commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and ensuring dignity, quality care, and better services for the people of Machakos County.
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18
Today, I condoled with the family of the late Elijah Wambua Maingi in Machakos Central Ward.
To Elijah’s family, I wish you strength, peace, and comfort during this difficult time of grief. May the Lord comfort you, surround you with His love, and grant you the grace to endure this loss.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
Healthcare workers deserve a dignified, safe, and conducive environment in which to live, learn, and serve the community effectively.
When I assumed leadership of the county, the medical intern quarters at Machakos County Referral Hospital were in a poor and unsuitable condition, falling short of the standards needed to support healthcare professionals undergoing training and delivering essential services at the facility.
To address this challenge, we have successfully renovated the medical intern quarters to provide a more comfortable, secure, and supportive living environment for interns and other healthcare workers on duty. The upgraded facilities will not only improve their welfare and working conditions, but also enhance service delivery by enabling healthcare professionals to remain within the facility and respond swiftly to patient needs at all times.
Previously, only a few patients in need of renal services could access dialysis treatment due to limited equipment and capacity at the renal unit. Many patients were forced to endure long waiting periods or seek specialized kidney care far from home.
Today, after the installation of new equipment at our renal centre, more dialysis patients can now receive timely and efficient treatment at the Machakos County Referral Hospital. The upgraded machines have significantly improved service delivery, increased the hospital’s treatment capacity, and enhanced the quality of specialized kidney care.
Held a consultative meeting with teams from Mabati Rolling Mills, Chandaria Foundation, and Kaluworks led by Atul Kshetry. The meeting aimed at strengthening collaboration with the county government of Machakos to support programmes that will positively impact the lives of our people.
The collaboration will help create more opportunities for economic growth, skills development, youth and women empowerment, improved livelihoods, and sustainable development across the county. Through working together with the private sector and development partners, we continue to build a stronger, empowered, and progressive Machakos County.
Hosted Dr. Silpah Owich, Head of Distribution at Kenya Commercial Bank, together with the team working at the KCB Eastern Region office recently opened in Machakos.
Together, we discussed possible areas of partnership between the county government of Machakos and the bank aimed at promoting economic empowerment, supporting entrepreneurship, enhancing financial inclusion, and creating opportunities that will improve the livelihoods of our people across Machakos County.
The collaboration will play a key role in strengthening development initiatives, supporting local businesses, and accelerating sustainable growth across the county.
For a long time, dentists at Machakos County Referral Hospital struggled to provide dental care using old and outdated dental equipment that was often unreliable, limited in function, and could not adequately support modern diagnosis and treatment needs.
Today, we have installed four modern dental machines to transform oral healthcare services at the facility. The new equipment will significantly improve diagnosis, treatment, and overall dental care delivery, enhancing efficiency, accuracy, and the quality of services offered to patients.
