South Korea to Begin Virtual Asset Taxation in January 2027
According to Edaily, the South Korean government plans to begin taxing virtual assets as scheduled starting in January next year. The National Tax Service is currently coordinating with the country’s five major virtual asset operators — Upbit, Bithumb, Coinone, Korbit, and Gopax — to formulate detailed taxation measures.
Under the current Income Tax Act, gains exceeding KRW 2.5 million will be subject to a total tax rate of 22% from January 1 next year, including 20% income tax and 2% local income tax.
