I retired from Packet Pushers 28 June 2024. It’s my privilege to have reached so many people, I thank you for listening. This account is no longer in use. The @PacketPushers continues with more shows than ever. Vendors should go to https://t.co/QxtvnGyOm1 to contact sales.

TLDR: Most Lithium batteries are still in use, and not ready for recycling. LiFePo batteries minimum 15 year span,.
A thing about AI hardware platforms is that it includes DESKTOPS/LAPTOPS as well as servers. Cisco will never be able to full stack AI because it will never sell desktops or laptops leaving it a laggard in the AI sector.
“Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter Market Records Second Consecutive Quarter of 30% Growth, Reports Crehan Research”
Fibrechannel is successful, still convinced that Infiniband would be the perfect upgrade path for legacy storage.
Vendors can find you (customer) your next job is common for senior level execs. Cisco/EMC/IBM use this strategy extensively when customers resisted sales they will undermine them top down, get them replaced or moved, and then recommend a replacement that was a known ally/friend
Your first fiduciary duty is to yourself, and then to your employer. Two decades ago we had a company first approach but that loyalty has broken down

@cathcam I think the battery replacement isn’t going to work. You would need 100% interoperable battery packs and believe that high current charging ultimately defeats the advantages. So no, I don’t agree.
The reason electric vehicles are falling in price is obvious - they were vastly overpriced. Early adopters paid a first generation premium - which was stupid. Prices are resetting to what market will bear - roughly similar to fossil cars which are 40-60% cheaper.
@eecraft Battery price is driven by production and demand mostly. We now have over supply of certain types eg. LiFePo so price is moving closer to cost.
@Leviathan_IT3 IMO most senior executives ego’s are the problem. They don’t understand “virtual” anything, all their experiences are face to face and they don’t like change.
@channelselling I would say that FC experience has never been negative. Which counts as a positive in IT infrastructure. It’s a rubbish technology in many ways but hey, it doesn’t suck.
@IamStan Consider that a battery project
- limited planning restrictions - low toxic, low environmental impact, safety
- short lead time w/ low risk of overruns
- short time to income
- location flexibility
Excess solar generation drives battery projects IMO
