Earth moves through their paths,
and the atmosphere makes them glow.

What looks empty
may simply be difficult to see.

And the meteors crossing our sky
are usually tiny pieces
of this organized system.

Outer-solar-system objects
are not necessarily rare.

They are distant, dark,
and much harder for us to observe.

Farther from the Sun,
colder material could remain frozen.

Beyond Neptune lies the Kuiper Belt—
a vast region filled with icy bodies.

Even farther away,
the Oort Cloud may surround
the solar system like a distant shell.

The warmer inner solar system
became home mostly to rock and metal.

Most asteroids remain gathered
between Mars and Jupiter
in the main asteroid belt.

Most planets orbit the Sun
in the same direction
and along nearly the same flat plane.
