All this to say, having students who see you as human (as I try to do to them) and who work for excellence but with understanding is as close to a teaching ideal as one could hope.
Adding a bit of positivity in the time of student evals. I was overwhelmed this semester and definitely did not teach well. Students would be justified in being critical, but instead showed compassion and kindness. I already thought they were ⭐️ but now I’m 🥹.
Also a note that Pediatric Ethicscope is heavily involved with the ASBH Pediatric Affinity Group and they are all lovely, brilliant individuals! Lots of good resources and discourse coming from that group! I definitely recommend joining if you are interested in pediatric ethics.
Excited to see one of my term papers cross the bridge to publication today (https://t.co/4im3ObrRCo) in Pediatric Ethicscope.
As usual, I’m very grateful to the reviewer & my colleagues for their feedback. Also grateful to @stowelocke for his guidance as editor to new authors.
Does anyone have experience with “open source” style handbooks/guides/resources for students or faculty?Wanting to make a living doc for certain things but curious to hear others’ experiences (the good, bad, tips for success, stories, etc). #AcademicTwitter
@prof_goldberg @COBioethics @ColoradoSPH@CUAnschutz Congratulations! So excited to see how this develops in the coming years! (Also a tiny bit jealous since I really wanted to do graduate work in PHE and PHLaw but there wasn’t a program for me then.)
Just a reminder that the deadline for submitting an application for this position is tomorrow. It is a minimal application, just a CV and cover letter for now. We will request supplementary materials from finalists. DM me if you have any questions!
Honestly, if there was a bulk candy store within driving distance, I’m pretty sure I would have finished my dissertation 2 years ago instead of being the last in my cohort.
@gmwalkerMD Maybe I should have rephrased as “people included pet photos in their intros and it made me so happy that there’s a high chance I’ll still be happy when grading (and therefore generous in points) and everyone will get an A” 😂
I asked my students to introduce themselves (with pet photos welcomed). They did, the pets were adorable, and it made my day, so of course I’m struggling to make an argument against just giving them all As immediately.
@gmwalkerMD Partially because I’m easily won over, partially because I’m lukewarm on grading overall and just want them to show up and engage in good faith. 😁
