I have been an election agent for the Labour Party in Crawley for 8 years Yesterday, for the first time ever, I cried at a count. Was it because we'd lost a lot of seats, because we had? No. I cried because a very hard working, dedicated, British born Councillor of Pakistani descent had the word "deport' written next to her name on a ballot paper with a Reform vote. When the doubtful papers were shown to candidates and agents, I challenged the Reform agent to disown the vote and he refused.
I saw a number of other ballot papers with racist, islamophobic and antisemitic comments. I'm used to the abusive comments about parties and policies on papers, we tend to have a laugh with them. I'm also used to the many pictures of penises on ballot papers (you guys are all so original), but I haven't seen so much hatred written on ballot papers. What are we becoming as a country? Why do people feel emboldened to put their hatred out there? It's vile.

🩻Did Nigel Farage break the House of Commons Code of Conduct by accepting an undeclared donation from Christopher Harborne?

Yes, he very much did.

I read the code of conduct and pulled out the relevant sections [see the graphic below].

One of the excuses being trotted out is that it was for security and so it doesn't need to be declared. That's wrong, though.

It's a misinterpretation of the rule below, stating that security proved by public funds does not have to be declared.

The other fundamental flaw is the argument that it was a personal gift, not a donation. The Electoral Commission is very clear on what counts as a donation.

“A donation is money, goods, property or services which are given:
without charge or on non-commercial terms”

This type of egregious breach of the code is dealt with by the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, but nothing has been documented on their website so far.

Will he get away with another breach? To add to the 17 missed declarations earlier in the year. Probably.

What does Reform actually want?

To lower the Minimum Wage.
Get rid of the NHS and replace with US Health Insurance.
Cut Benefits by at least 30%, which will have to be all of them, including State Pension, Child Benefit and Tax Credit.

This is getting silly now. The former synagogue was purchased by Muslims after it had been unused for years, and it is now a mosque.

Whoever did it needs to be brought to justice, but this framing is very telling.
