Illegal and brutal pushbacks of Palestinians fleeing fleeing war and persecution continue in Greece, there is no end to their suffering.
Eleven Palestinians were on Saturday found drifting in a Greek-manufactured life raft in Turkish waters near the Greek island of Chios, in the eastern Aegean Sea.
The group had been taken onboard a Greek coast guard vessel, on which their papers, valuables and phones were taken away from them, same as the previous group one week ago outside Kastellorizo. Then they were forced into a life raft, and left helplessly drifting at sea.
More and more countries in the world are now condemning the Israeli slaughter of Palestinian civilian’s in Gaza, while Greek authorities seem to have no sympathy for people seeking protection in Europe, all in the name of border protection.
Border crimes in Greece continue unhindered and unchallenged by the European Council. Not only that, the EU supports and finances these border crimes with Europeans taxpayers’ money, These unacceptable and illegal acts are carried out in your name, using your money.
In the last four years almost 80.000 vulnerable people, men, women and children seeking protection in Europe have been illegally and brutally pushed back in the Aegean Sea by Greek authorities.
Now more than 26,000 Palestinian people have been killed in Gaza since 8 October 2023, and the number is rapidly increasing. Thousands of those killed were small children. The daily death rate is higher than in any other 21st Century conflict.
It’s long overdue that the European Council triggers the Temporary Protection Directive for people fleeing the slaughter in Gaza, as we did when Russia invaded Ukraine, and offers quick and effective assistance also to Palestinians.

To clarify, the Government is not introducing a new scheme to give people seeking asylum the right to work.
In fact, the rules have not changed since 2010.
Our work to #LiftTheBan on the right to work for people seeking asylum continues.
