I always advise the kids I coach never to do any math the morning of an exam. To conserve their brain energy to minimize stupid errors creeping into their exam.

But this is just my gut feeling. I've never looked into the actual science behind it.

@dhabecker I have Todhunter's books on Euclid and his collected essays on education. I've seen his algebra textbook referenced a few times.

Chauvenet is a new name for me. Quite a surprise as geometry was a hot topic end of 19th and beginning of 20th century but never seen him quoted.
